The Data Analyst Intern role sits within CoverSelf’s Data Management team in Basavangudi, Bengaluru. This position offers hands-on training in processing US healthcare reference datasets (from public sources such as CMS and AMA) using Excel, SQL, and Python, turning raw medical code sets into structured platform tables. No prior healthcare or medical coding background is required.
Key Responsibilities & Daily Operations
- Data Processing & Ingestion: Download and collect raw healthcare data files from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), American Medical Association (AMA), and other public sources.
- Cleaning & Formatting: Clean, transform, and format complex datasets using MS Excel, progressing to SQL and basic Python scripts to convert raw data into CoverSelf database schema.
- Table & Code Set Maintenance: Maintain industry code sets, custom tables, and reference data; manage date banding and perform delta (version comparison) analysis between old and updated fee schedules.
- Quality Assurance (QA) & Profiling: Perform first-level data validation to identify duplicates, null values, formatting errors, and date range overlaps; generate data profiling and summary reports.
- Domain Learning & Documentation: Learn fundamental US healthcare concepts (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 codes, NCCI edits, modifiers, and fee schedules) while maintaining clear process documentation.
Minimum Eligibility & Qualification Criteria
Academic Background
- Currently pursuing or recently completed an Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
Must-Have Technical & Personal Skills
- Location Constraint: Must be based in Bengaluru and able to work full-time on-site at the Basavangudi office.
- Excel Proficiency: Working knowledge of MS Excel functions (sorting, filtering, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and logical formulas).
